Our Ladys College Greenhills

Our Lady’s College, Greenhills is a Catholic girls’ secondary school located in Greenhills, Drogheda, under the trusteeship of CEIST (Catholic Education, an Irish Schools Trust). Founded by the Presentation Sisters with a strong Catholic ethos, the school provides a broad junior and senior cycle education tailored to the needs and potential of each student, supported by pastoral care and a commitment to academic and personal development.

Mary completed her third year teaching placement in Our Ladys College, Greenhills. During this placement, she taught a variety of year groups including 1st year, 2nd year, Transition Year, and 5th year. 

UoL - 1st Year Lino Print

Aim: Through the exploration of observational drawing and examining an artist's work, pupils will design and print a lino print based on the theme “from garden to gallery“ and inspired by the use of texture, line and pattern.

Learning Outcomes:

3.6 design a final work based on their drawings [and those of others].

2.6 investigate their own personal approach to craftwork through the technical and creative application of drawing and mark making.

1.10 identify the use of art element and design principles within an artwork

UoL - 1st Year mixed Media Drawing and Collage

Aim: Students will create an A4 mixed media composition on a fictional hybrid creature, through the exploration of the AEDP variety, Movement and Shape.

Learning Outcomes: 

1.5 – interpret the world and communicate ideas through visual means

1.6 – use drawing to communicate their personal outlook or understanding

1.10 – identify the use of art elements and design principles within an artwork

1.12 – apply their understanding of the art elements and design principles to make an artwork

UoL - 5th Year Visual Studies

Aim: To explore and appreciate the significance of pre-Christian Ireland, students will analyse, interpret, and create artwork, aiming to relate the context with that of the wider world, thereby cultivating critical thinking, artistic skills, and cultural appreciation.

Learning Outcomes: 

Research:

1.1 Looking: Students should be able to use critical and visual language to describe an artwork.

1.4 Contextual Enquiries: students should be able to explain how context and period influence artistic thinking.

 

Create:

2.1 Making: Students should be able to apply appropriate skills, knowledge and techniques

3.1 Analyse: Students should be able to discuss examples from visual studies.
